Agie was founded in 1954, in Basil Switzerland. It is one of the biggest manufacturers of EDM's in the world, and has some noticeably claims to the success of EDM machining such as being the first EDM manufacturer to incoporate an NC control into the EDM in 1969, which they named the Agiecut. The second was the buying in 1988 of Elox the largest manufacturer of electro discharge machine's in the United States. Today Agie is solely responsible for holding over 100+ patents regarding EDM development. It currently has over 15,000 customers with over 40,000 EDM machines around the world. Its sells in Europe, America, and Asia. In 1995 Agie and Charmilles at the time seperate organisations, in a joint venture created the Beijing Agie Charmilles Electronics Group. Which lead Agie to creating its own control systems called the Agievision. In 1996 Agie was conglomerated with Charmilles into the GF group. Becoming Agie Charmilles.
